Good day fellow Midjourneyers!
Before we get into prompt crafting, exploring styles, and turning our imagination into amazing art, there are some setup things we need to talk about. I've seen one too many people not utilizing the features offered by Midjourney in an optimal way. Let’s make sure you are not missing out.
Here are the things we will be looking at today:
Talking to Midjourney Bot directly
Adding the Bot to your own server
Setting up and organizing your own Discord server
Let’s get to it!
First Things First
When you are trying out Midjourney for free, you have to use one of the Newbies channels in Midjourney’s Discord server. But this is an extremely inefficient way of using the tool.
Today we are going to look at how you can improve. (If you still haven't generated your first image, here’s a Free Guide that will help you with that.)
To get the most out of Midjourney you will need an active subscription. You can subscribe to Midjourney by typing the /subscribe command in Midjourney’s Discord server and hitting enter.
And pressing the “Open Subscription Page” button.
Or by going to the subscription page directly at https://www.midjourney.com/account/.
Here are their current pricing plans:
Yearly plans are 20% cheaper than monthly plans. I recommend going for the standard plan as it offers unlimited generations.
Not only does subscribing allow more generations, but it also improves the experience drastically. Let’s find out how.
Talking to Midjourney Bot directly
Once you have subscribed, you no longer have to deal with other users clogging up the chat and scrolling to find your images. You can message the bot directly or even import it to your own discord server.
How to message the bot?
Once you are in the Midjorney AI Discord server on the right-hand panel you will see a list of its members. Find Midjourney Bot there.
Simply click on Midjourney Bot and send a message to start a conversation.
Now you will find the Bot in your Direct Messages tab.
You can now generate images uninterrupted. Just use the /imagine command in the message box and generate away.
Adding the Bot to your own Discord server
You can also add the bot to your own server. This offers several advantages over just messaging the bot.
You can organize your images
You can invite other people to the server
You can keep track of your prompts/settings/ideas
1. Creating a Discord server
The first step you need to take is creating a discord server. To do this you need to navigate to the left side of your screen. Below the list of Discord servers, you will find a plus button. Press it.
Then just follow the instructions, pick a server name and you will be ready for step two.
2. Adding Midjourney bot to the server
To do this, you will go back to Midjourney’s Discord server and find the bot in the “members” panel. Click on the bot. And choose “Add to server”.
And select the server you just created from the dropdown menu. Congratulations, now you can use Midjourney AI on your own server.
Now it’s time to organize!
Organizing your server
Once you have the bot on your server, you can start organizing by creating categories and channels for different kinds of images.
To create a new category access the drop-down menu next to your server’s name and choose the “create a category” option.
Once you have created some categories, you can begin to populate them with channels. These channels are where you will actually generate your images, and store your prompts, ideas, etc.
To create a new channel press the “plus” button next to one of your category names.
Let’s make this more fun!
Adding people to your server
The best thing about using your own Discord server is that you can add more people to it. You can invite others to collaborate, share ideas, provide feedback, and even generate their own images.
Only people with an active Midjourney subscription of their own will be able to generate images. But everyone will be able to see them.
To invite people to your server, access the dropdown menu next to your server’s name and choose the “invite people” option.
Thank you for reading! Hope you found this useful! Next week we will start to look into prompt crafting! :) See you then!
